Abstract:The localization of global guidelines for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) is crucial in achieving comprehensive rural land consolidation, ensuring that rural areas address various societal challenges while safeguarding the natural environment. This study, aligned with the requirements of rural comprehensive land consolidation, undertakes the contextual translation of 28 detailed standards of the NbS global guidelines. It establishes and proposes 28 localized indicators, exemplified through an empirical assessment of the rural comprehensive land consolidation project in the Yuquan Street Office of Dangyang City, Hubei Province. The research unveils the adaptability of NbS global guidelines in the context of rural comprehensive land consolidation. The findings indicate that the project excels in aspects such as scale-based design, inclusive governance, economic viable, and adaptive management. It performs well in identifying societal challenges, delivering net biodiversity benefits, mainstreaming and sustainable development. However, it exhibits weaknesses in the balancing mechanism. This study provides empirical evidence for the localization application of NbS in the rural comprehensive land consolidation and introduces a straightforward quantification method for the 28 localized assessment indicators. These indicators can serve as an effective tool for decision-makers and practitioners to conduct self-assessment of NbS localization.
