Abstract:For an intensive study of the internal logic of farmers’ IPM technology adoption behavior,a ordered logit model was used to analyze the effects of the economic incentives and social networks on the farmers’ IPM technology adoption behavior. The findings are demonstrated as follows. The economic incentives,in forms of price mechanism and subsidy mechanism, have apparent positive effects on the farmers’ IPM technology adoption behavior. However, the market incentive mechanism is far greater and more important than the government incentive mechanism because of the farmers’ concern to market value of agricultural products and limitations of the subsidy policy in IPM. Social networks, through the information acquisition mechanism and social learning mechanism, have greatly accelerated farmers’ application of IPM. However, compared with homogeneous social networks, the heterogeneous social networks have a much more profound effect on the farmers’ choice due to the traits of IPM,scientific, systematic and complicated. Therefore, this paper proposes to build up a collaborative incentive mechanism between the market and the government and cultivate the farmers’ own social networks.
