This paper introduces the concept of spousal-style family and the resource-power analysis model and analyzes the rural younger elderly citizens’ partnering action in terms of family intergenerational relations， so as to explore its internal logic. For young elderly individuals， balancing intergenerational relationships becomes a manifestation of their life crisis after their children have established their own families. The study finds that the spousal-style family with decision-making power has become a preferred living arrangement and a preparatory space for their retirement. However， for young widowed elderly individuals， they face a sudden life crisis without the support of a spousal-style family， which is often overcome by finding a partner to form a similar family structure. As a kind of resource， the young elderly citizen is faced with the tripartite competition of the partner， the children and their own pension provision， and the process of partnering action is confronted with multiple contradictions. The act of partnering lacks the phase of reproduction to realize the shared interests， which leads to the lack of corresponding sense of obligation among family members and makes the breakup of partnership a common outcome.
