Anding District of Dingxi City(County,previously),located in the middle of Gansu,is one of the national impoverished areas as well as a major area of renovation in water and soil preservation.This area’s fragile ecology is closely connected with its poor economy,so it is a typical ecologically fragile and impoverished area.Through a thorough survey,it is found that a phenomenon exists in the area,which is the evident derivation in peasants’ environmental awareness.This is reflected in the imbalance between the superficial and deep environmental awareness of the peasants,the imbalance in environmental awareness between peasants of different ages and the disconnection between the peasants’ environmental protection knowledge and their action.To improve the peasants’ environmental awareness and provide a better condition for regional environmental protection and ecological reconstruction,the environmental education methods to the peasants should be improved as follows:First,the government’s role should be emphasized and it should understand better the strategic importance of the peasants’ environmental education; second,local traditional ideas on ecology should be used to achieve the localization of the content of environmental education; third,primary and middleschool students should play an important role in environmental education since they can pass the knowledge obtained from their teachers to their parents; fourth,more attention should be paid to the demands and benefits of the peasants so as to promote the peasants to turn their environmental protection knowledge into action.
