Abstract:From theoratical research and social practices, this paper finds that women poverty has its own special feature. Women in general are facing more serious poverty issues than men. Based on the poverty alleviation practice in Guizhou province, this paper focuses on women’s needs and their development in the process of poverty alleviation. The government of Guizhou province has specifically made policies of poverty alleviation for women. This set of specifically targeted and multichannel policies have been successfully achieved in ridding a significant number of women with serious poverty. However, the political challenges are still the major burden for further poverty alleviation for women, and it is a long way before the issue of poverty alleviation for women becomes a focal point of the government policy——making process. In order to further improve women’s economic status,it is crucial that gender equality is taken into account when making antipoverty policies for women, and women’s centric role in this particular issue should be established.
