Comprehensive running model and low-level homogenization of journal of social sciences in colleges and universities are strongly criticized.Running the journal in an open way and characteristic transformation are the inevitable choice for the journal of social sciences in colleges and universities to break through its own bottleneck and get out of trouble.Based on the practice of Journal of Huazhong Agricultural University (Social Sciences Edition) from 2012 to 2016,this paper uses Bibliometrics method to analyze both the features of articles published in this Journal and the specific methods on how to transform this Journal in characteristic ways.This Journal is relying on the key discipline at the state level——agricultural economics in Huazhong Agricultural University,guided by national policy which mainly focuses on such research hot fields as agricultural economy,rural public governance,construction of new countryside,ecological civilization and land system,and highlights the characteristics of three issues of “farmers,countryside and agriculture”.Over the past five years,this Journal has apparently deserved much attention and become a journal of Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI).Quantitative analysis shows that firstly,the effect of this Journal’s open publication is remarkable and research institutions are widely distributed.Secondly,this Journal’s discipline concentration is intensively high and the characteristics of the “farmers,countryside and agriculture” are distinct.Thirdly,the number of articles published in this Journal is reduced,fund-sponsored articles in this Journal is increased and the academic rationality is strengthened.Fourthly,highly cited papers in this Journal are enhanced and the influence factors are significantly increased.Finally,articles puble.
