It is found that that losers in marriage market become bachelors due to their high degree of involvement in marriage market, disadvantageous geographical location and poor economic condition. In rural areas featured by moderate involvement in marriage market but high marriage cost and great dependence on parental resources, bachelors losing parental responsibility account for a large part. In rural areas featured by low degree of involvement in marriage market, low marriage cost and little dependence on parents’ resources, males become bachelors for their own sake.
