It is very important to fully understand the level of industrial development and geographical differentiation,which are the scientific basis to formulate industrial development strategy and to make industrial layout adjustment. From a geographical perspective,this paper constructs the evaluation index system at first,and then evaluates the development level of modern animal husbandry at provincial level,and reveals its regional differentiation characteristics and types. The results showed that:the development level of modern animal husbandry in China is in rapid growth stage,but there are obvious regional differences,showing a decreasing trend from east to northeast to middle to west. The regional division of livestock industry gradually emerged,which greatly promoted the development of the industry. However,there are many problems in the animal husbandry,such as low level of material equipment,the small number of standardized scale farms,the weak support ability of feed industry and livestock and poultry industry,the shortage of scientific and technological personnel and the low labor productivity,all of which have greatly restricted the development of animal husbandry modernization in China. Animal Husbandry’s modernization in China could be divided into six types,and different measures should be taken for different priorities. According to these results,main policies for animal husbandry modernization are formulated. Firstly,it is necessary to promote the construction of standardized-scale farms and enhance the standardization of farms. Secondly,the supporting ability of science and technology could be raised by setting up a multi-channel and multi-entity mechanism. Thirdly,the condition for animal husbandry professional cooperative organizations should be further improved to enhance the overall competitiveness of the industry. Finally,we need to scientifically determine the breeding area layout to guide the rational development of animal husbandry appropriately.
