Abstract:This article explores the female bilateral back-feeding practice and the elderly support crisis in families with only daughters based on the empirical investigation of family support for the elders in Tao-hua village,Hubei Province The study found that the husbands’ parents obtained more offsprings’ support thanks to the institution advantages and their own efforts, but the wives’ parents fell into poverty. There are three main reasons for the poverty, the insufficient supply of children's resources, insufficient intergenerational interaction and inadequate institutional support. Therefore, the study proposed that firstly, offsprings should change their traditional views and the couples should take dual back-feeding responsibility together; secondly, the wives’ parents should be encouraged to take the initiative to maintain close inter-generational relations; thirdly, the dual marriage system should be reshaped to realize bilateral back-feeding practice.
